“In this economy you have to innovate. So we tried to create economic opportunities for existing business and industry,” said Alicia Summers, executive director of NETVRIDA.
In April of this year NETVRIDA co-hosted the “Doing Business with Volkswagen” forum at the conference center at the Bristol Motor Speedway to provide regional business and industry with information on the Volkswagen process for selecting potential suppliers. A new VW billion dollar plant in Chattanooga, TN is under construction and will be ready for production in 2011. Chattanooga is just a few hours away from the 12-county region served by RIDA.
Volkswagen is seeking suppliers of materials and services for everything from the ground up for the physical plant including plant maintenance and equipment, warehousing and buildings and auto parts suppliers. “VW officials expressed an interest in dealing with suppliers as close to home as possible. Our region is ideally situated to serve the VW plant needs…everything from paper clips to auto parts to maintenance services,” said Summers.
Potential suppliers are encouraged to register for inclusion on the VW supplier database through the following steps:
“Do not be concerned if you do not have a response immediately from VW as they are seeking bids one service or product category at a time,” said Summers.
